Symptoms of Glaucoma depend mainly on the type of glaucoma.
Open Angle Glaucoma
Open angle glaucoma is the most common type of glaucoma worldwide. It is a chronic disease and usually it is asymptomatic unless it is advanced.
Symptoms of Open Angle Glaucoma
1- Early in the disease it is asymptomatic.
2- painless.
3- The patient first will loss peripheral vision gradually. With time and without treatment he will complain of difficulty in night vision.
4- With advanced diseases there will be complete loss of vision except in the center of visual field which is called tunnel vision.
5- Complete blindness can happen if the disease was not treated.
Angle Closure Glaucoma
Angle closure glaucoma is an acute disease with acute symptoms.
Symptoms of angle-closure glaucoma are:
1- Blurred vision.
2- Red eye.
3- Tearing.
4- Photophobia which is light sensitivity.
5- Severe eye pain.
6- Headache.
7- Haloes which appear as rainbows around lights.
8- Nausea and vomiting.
9- Sometimes these symptoms come in intermittent interval not in continuous form.
Symptoms in Congenital Glaucoma
In infant and children, glaucoma will cause:
1- large eye with large cornea which is called Buphthalmos.
2- White cornea or hazy cornea.
3- Photophobia.
4- Blurred vision.
5- With time and due to blurred vision in one eye more than the other, lazy eye can occur with diverting of this eye outside or inside. This lazy eye is called amblyopic eye.
