Q 75- Recurrent Episodes of darkness

by Karen

Hi,
I am a 45 year old female and wear multifocal contact lenses.
For many months I have been experiencing split second episodes of darkness (as though blinking).
What can cause this, and can hypotension or hypothyroidism be connected to the problem?
Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your Question

Here are some causes of recurrent episodes of darkness:

1- Hypotension

2- Atherosclerosis which can cause carotid artery stenosis and reduce blood flow to the eye. This is called transient ischemic attack.

3- Optic disc swilling.

The best thing to do is to have full dilated fundas examination
