Q 98- High Sugar intake and eye health

by Missy
(Seattle, WA)

Hi,
I recently have had a very poor diet. I struggle with binging on lots of sugary foods at once. Sometimes when I do this I notice my vision gets a little blurry. Is this anything to be concerned about? I am working on changing my diet.

Thanks!

Thanks for your Question

Glucose can enter inside the natural lens of your eyes and it pulls water with it and causes the lens to swell. Swelling of natural lens changes the refractive power of the eye and makes the eye more myopic and this is called myopic shift. After normalization of blood sugar, it usually takes 1-3 weeks for the refractive power to get back to its normal value.

The chronicity of this condition can lead to the formation of cataract.
