Glaucoma treatment

Glaucoma treatment can be either by medications, laser, surgery or all of them together.

1- Medications

Medications for glaucoma can be eye drops for glaucoma and oral medications

Eye drops

Eye drops for glaucoma are the most common way of treatment for glaucoma.

Glaucoma is usually controlled by eye drops and sometimes especially in acute glaucoma we can use oral medication which is called acetazolamide which act by decrease the production of aqueous humor.

There are many types of them and they either act by reducing the amount of fluid production or increase the amount of fluid drainage... For more information about eye drops click here

Oral medications

Some times eye drops will not bring your eye pressure down to the desired level; so your doctor may also add an oral medication such as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors like acetazolamide (Diamox) and methazolamide (Neptazane). For more information about oral medications click here

2- Glaucoma laser treatments

Glaucoma laser surgery is done by many types of laser techniques like laser iridotomy, laser trabeculoplasty and Cyclo-Cryotherapy For more information about glaucoma laser treatment click here

3- Glaucoma surgical treatments

After the treatment with eye drops and laser failed, we can do surgery which will create a new opening to drain the aqueous fluid and so decrease the I.O.P. This kind of surgery is called filtering surgery For more information about glaucoma surgical treatments click here
