1. Cantaloupe

Loaded with twice as much beta-carotene as a serving of carrots, you will never go wrong by including a fourth of a cantaloupe in your day’s meals or snacks. This tasty fruit contains 11,150 mcg or 11.15 mg beta-carotene, and small amounts of alpha-carotene, cryptoxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin. Cantaloupe is also a good source of potassium, vitamin C, niacin, folate, and has close to 20,000 IU vitamin A.

Vitamin A is essential for night vision. Beta-carotene and other carotenoids can support the eyes so you can see at night without stumbling and without halos around objects. The carotenoids and vitamin A may also help prevent dry eyes.

Cryptoxanthin is a type of carotenoid that acts as an antioxidant. Scientists are still in the early years of trying to determine its role in the body, but so far are finding that this carotenoid stimulates a gene that prevents the changes of a normal cell into a cancer cell.

Lutein and zeaxanthin act as antioxidants in the eyes and can help support the eyes so they don’t develop cataracts and macular degeneration.

Vitamin C and bioflavonoids are antioxidants that can prevent cross-linking in the lens and the macula; thus they may be helpful for cataracts and/or macular degeneration.

2. Berries

There’s nothing better than a small bowl of fresh blueberries, blackberries or strawberries with a little bit of whipped cream or ice cream on top with a few nuts.

Berries consider as one of the top fruits to improve eye vision because this fruit is loaded with natural vitamin C and bioflavonoids which nourish the blood vessels of the eyes. As an antioxidant, vitamin C protects the eyes from free radical damage.

Of all the tissues in the body, the eye contains the highest amount of vitamin C which presents mainly on the anterior chamber of the eye. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant in the eye. Berries are also good sources of lutein and zexanthin.

3. Papaya

High in Vitamin A, the papaya is a fruit that is welcome on most tables during the year. Vitamin A strengthens the rods and cones of the eyes for night vision and color vision. This antioxidant also protects vitamin C from being destroyed in the body, and the eye contains the highest amount of vitamin C in the body.

Vitamin A also is a boost for the immune system, which can keep eye infections at bay.

4. Apricots

Apricots are another fruit high in vitamin A and vitamin C, antioxidants that protect against free radical damage. Researchers have reported that free radicals act in full momentum in the eye when there’s either macular degeneration or cataracts.

5. Bilberries

You won’t find bilberries in the grocery store but you will find them in dried or dehydrated form at the health food store.

Bilberries are one of the top fruits to improve eye vision and were used by pilots in World War II for this very purpose. The berries are dark-colored and contain medicinal constituents called anthocyanins. These antioxidants are also flavonoids and have the potential to interfere with inflammation, bacterial infections, aging and cancer in the body
