Eye Care After Cataract Surgery

Your doctor will give you instructions for how to take care of your eyes following your cataract surgery. To avoid complications and the risk of infection, it is important to follow these instructions carefully until your eye is completely healed.

5. Avoid getting your eye wet. It is important to wear your protective shield when showering, bathing, or washing your face. You should also avoid swimming or hot tubs for at least two weeks following your surgery.
6. Avoid cleaning the house, gardening, or changing the litter box. It is important to keep the eye free from irritants such as dust and dirt and to minimize exposure to germs that can cause infection.
7. Always wash your hands before applying eye drops.
8. If you feel severe pain, swelling, or excessive discharge contact a doctor immediately.
