Cataract diagnosis
Those are the tests that should be do in examination of the patient with cataract.For cataract diagnosis your eye doctor should perform these tests:
1- Patient history: patient with cataract will complain of gradual loss of vision. Patient
2- Visual acuity test. To see how much the cataract affect your vision and also who complains of sudden loss of vision the cause will not be due to cataract to compare with the post-operative vision
3- Potential acuity testing: This test will give your eye doctor an idea of what your vision will be after you had cataract surgery
4- Refraction. To determine what is the best corrected vision you might have with glasses. Some patients with mild cataract will have 20 20 vision with glasses and they prefer not to undergo cataract surgery
5- Tonometry. Which is used to measure the intra-ocular pressure of the eye to see if you have glaucoma with cataract or just cataract
6- Fundoscopy or Dilated eye exam. Which will help to
examine the lens and determine what type of cataract you have, Also it will help to determine the density of the cataract and if it is clinically significant to cause decrease in vision or there is another causes behind blurring of vision
7- Ultrasound or B-scan: Sometimes the cataract is so dense that your eye doctor will not be able to view the retina, so this test will help to rule out if there is retinal detachment or not
