Cataract symptoms
The most common cataract symptoms are:
• Painless blurring of vision or cloudy vision in which the image will appear cloudy which will get worse gradually.
Cataract will not cause painful red eye unless it is associated with another cause like glaucoma. Any sudden loss of vision is not related to cataract and you should visit your eye doctor as soon as you can. Some people especially young patients will complain of blur of vision even with mild cataract while others like old people will not complains of blurring of vision even if they have moderate and some times severe density cataract. Usually the far vision will be affected more the near vision but when the cataract is mature or thick enough, the near sight like reading will be affected also
• Decrease in color contrast.
Glare which is sudden decrease in vision when expose to high light like headlights, lamps, sunlight or when driving at night and you face the light of the coming car
• A halo may appear around lights.
• Decrease or poor night vision.
• Double vision which is monocular. It means that you still see double vision or image when you cover the other eye or less affected eye. With maturity of cataract this symptom maybe disappear
• Frequent changes in your refractive power which lead to changes in glass prescription
• Increase in nearsightedness in which you near vision will become clear with time with out the using of near glass prescription and this is called second sight
• These symptoms also can be a sign of other eye problems. If you have any of these symptoms, check with your eye care professional
