Q 37- Eyes are burning and sensitive to light

by Jill Monette

Hi,
My son is 18 years and wears contact lenses. He has started a new job landscaping. The past few days he came home with burning, watery eyes that are very sensitive to light. He has changed out his contacts but that did not help, even wearing his glasses did not help. We can’t figure out what is going on with his eyes.

Thanks for your Question

Burning, watery eyes and light sensitivity in patients with contact lens wearing should raise the suspicion of corneal infection which is a common condition in contact lenses wearer. This condition is very risky if not treated. Other common problems are dry eyes and corneal foreign bodies.

The best thing to do is to stop wearing contact lenses and visit an eye doctor for full ocular examination.
