(Wales)

Hello,

I'm really worried about my eyes, there getting worse and worse every day, I think this is due to me sitting at my computer about 10+ hours a day, my eyes have never been like this, although when I was 14 (now 15) I didn't use the computer much then but I used to have bad headaches everyday, and I heard this was from eye problems and such?. Can you tell me how I can stop my eyes from deteriorating, I'm very worried please.

-Brendan.

A 12- Response from online-eye-info.com/blurred vision with working on computer

Thanks for your Question.

Working on computers for a long period can cause blurry vision and headache in a condition called Computer Eye Strain which can occur due to many reasons and here are some of them:

1- Dry eyes. People who work on computer used to have wrong head position in which the head is tilted down and the eye globe is directed up. This position will automatically decrease the blinking reflex which will cause dry eyes. Correcting the head position will help to decrease dryness.

2- Spasm of intraocular muscle. Some people use near vision when they work on computer while other use their intermediate vision. In both of them they use their accommodating muscles inside their eyes. In accommodation and with the help of intraocular muscles, your lens shape will change to allow the light from near objects to focus on the retina and when you look back to a far distance, your lens also will change its shape to focus light on retina. Long period working on near tasks will cause spasm of intraocular muscle which will cause headache and also will cause blurred vision for distance because the lens is locked in the near shape.

Take sometimes to relax.

Another cause of blurred vision which is not related to working on computer is refractive errors. Usually at age of 15 years, refractive errors such as myopia and hyperopia start to appear and it would be better if you visit an optometrist or an ophthalmologist for vision and eye examination.
