A 1- Response from online-eye-info/optive and contact lenses
Thanks for your question.
There are two types of Optive. The first one is called Optive lubricant eye drops with preservative called prurite. This preservative will be dissolved into water once it comes in contact with the cornea.
The second type which is preservative free called Optive sensitive preservative free lubricant eye drops.
Artificial tears with preservative should not be used with contact lens because it can participate on its surface.
Preservative free artificial tears can be used with contact lens but it is not advisable because there is no enough data to support that.
Optive in Europe is sold with a contact lens claim. Clinical studies have been conducted by the company to show suitability with contact lenses. Optive is a little thicker than some contact lens rewetters and some people like this, while others do not.
Really thick products (especially ointments) should not be used while wearing lenses.
